A kid lives in the San Francisco bay area. He notices trash gets picked up regularly in nice neighborhoods. He also sees a pile of trash on his neighborhood street (Wood St. & 20th St. Oakland, California). It does not get picked up.

Pile of trash on the left side of the street

Maybe the trash pick-up people do not know about it?

One day he reaches out to the trash in-charge to tell him about the trash.

The in-charge tells the kid that the trash in his neighborhood, which is on the left side of the street, needs to be on the right side of the street so that the trash can be picked up.

Many things lie underneath this story of inertia and from a place of privilege. What can a kid do in this situation? What did the kid do?

That pile of trash was accumulated over 30 + years & homes 3–4 stray kittens. Receiving no help from the in-charge, he asked that street’s community people if it was okay with them if the kid cleaned up the trash. They said it was okay. The kid also asked for help from people around him. Strangers came through for his call.

Together, they moved the pile of trash from the left to the right side of the street.

Lesson: “Be part of the solution.”- the kid.

Right side (of the street)

The kid is Vincent Ray Williams III who was once homeless #giveback -
